A full-grown dog has 42 teeth, and all of them have a purpose. The 12 incisors tear skin and chew; four tough canines are designed to bite down on prey and hold it tight; 16 premolars and ten molars at the back of the mouth, which have especially tough enamel, have no problem crushing thick bones.
